Annie Jump Cannon is one of Dover's most beloved daughters who dedicated her life to the stars. Her State Street home in Dover was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.
We have a full day planned and you will be able to meet her as Linda Chatfield will be here as a First Person Interpreter from open to close to answer your most pressing questions about Annie. She will speak at 2:15 as part of the program.
The program and dedication of the Annie Jump Cannon gallery will be at 2 with a rose-laying ceremony held at her gravesite immediately following. We hope you plan to attend and learn about "herstory" and Annie's contributions to the world of Astronomy. Her accomplishments are internationally known and we are delighted to share our knowledge of her with you.
The program is as follows:
Noon: "Miss Cannon" will be here
2:00PM - Dedication of Gallery
2:15 PM - "Miss Cannon" Speaks about Her Life
3 PM - Flower Laying Ceremony at Grave site at Lakeside Cemetery
3:30 - Birthday Cake at Parke Green Galleries
Parke Green Galleries and The Delaware Store are open until 5. Please subscribe to our newsletter as additional programming is planned. We so look forward to sharing a significant part of our city's history with you and hope you will plan to stop by. Maria Liberto Bessette is the featured artist in the gallery during December. Linda Chatfield's work is also on view in the Mabel Lloyd Ridgley Gallery along with local artist Jo Freed. Jan Crumpley and N Taylor Collins will have their new and traditional works on display as well in their galleries and studio spaces.
